In a recent turn of events, the President of UMkhonto weSizwe Party, Commander General Jacob Zuma, has announced the resignation of Dr. Sfiso Maseko from his position as Secretary General. This significant development was confirmed through an official statement released by the party on November 10, 2024.
According to the statement, Dr. Maseko formally submitted his resignation on October 29, 2024, requesting relief from his duties as Secretary General of UMkhonto weSizwe. His decision comes amidst his suspension from his role as Chief Director in the Gauteng Department of Health, where he was awaiting the conclusion of an internal disciplinary process. With this process now concluded, Dr. Maseko expressed his intent to resume his work within the Department of Health.
President Zuma accepted Dr. Maseko’s resignation, recognizing his contribution to the party. Although Dr. Maseko will no longer serve as Secretary General, he will maintain his role as a member of the National High Command, the highest decision-making body within the MK Party (MKP).
In line with the MKP Constitution, President Zuma, after consultations with National Officials, appointed Commander Nyiko Floyd Shivambu as the new Secretary General of UMkhonto weSizwe, effective immediately. The appointment entrusts Commander Shivambu with the responsibilities of Secretary General, including all tasks as prescribed by the MKP’s constitutional guidelines.
