The sixth child, a survivor of the tragic snacks poisoning incident in Soweto, has sadly passed away.
This heartbreaking news was confirmed during the funeral service for four of the five children who had died earlier after allegedly consuming poisoned snacks bought from a local spaza shop in Naledi Extension, Soweto.
While the other five children tragically succumbed to the alleged poisoning on Sunday, October 6, young Katlego Olifant (6) fought for his life in the ICU at Dr. SK Matseke Memorial Hospital (Lesedi Hospital). Sadly, he passed away a week later, on Sunday, October 13.
Katlego’s family had previously shared that his condition was dire. His devastated mother, Lydia Olifant, told the media that doctors had little hope and were unable to provide any positive updates on his condition.
During the funeral service at the Naledi Community Hall, where mourners gathered to bid farewell to the other victims, a moment of silence was observed in honor of Katlego’s passing, as the community grieved the loss of yet another innocent life in this tragic incident.
